HRH Oba Efuntola Oseijeman Adelabu Adefunmi I, is one of the most important practitioners of Traditional African Religion in the Western Hemisphere. He is not only credited as the first initiated African-American, but also as one of the pioneers of cultural nationalism in America and the first African-American to be crowned King (of all Yoruba in the Americas and Canada).

• In 1959 Oseijeman Adefunmi became the first African-American Ol'Orisa.
• The Adefunmi family is recognized as the royal family of U.S. Diasporan Ab'Orisa by the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
• The Oyotunji lineage is over three decades old.
• Oyotunji Villagers were first to revive Egungun in America.

I remember the first time I came to Oyotunji African Village. It was 1970 and I was a little girl from New York.  I remember thinking "this is Africa". It has remained that for me to this day.  It requires you be authentic in your African soul.  It's a bridge home.
